Football Game Preview: Fortuna Huskies vs. St. Bernard's Crusaders

The Fortuna Huskies will take on the St. Bernard's Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Fortuna and Del Norte had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Huskies enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over the Warriors on Friday. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Warriors on their field since April 10, 2021.

Meanwhile, St. Bernard's strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Eureka 28-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Crusaders' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Loggers are ranked 801st).

A big part of St. Bernard's win came down to the chemistry between Trenten Hagler and his top target Kuron Devlin. Hagler threw for 117 yards and one TD while Devlin rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown. Devlin showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 54 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Bernard's defense and their seven sacks. Jahseree Bailey was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. St. Bernard's got some further help from Kohlton Hall: he picked up 1.5 sacks and made eight total tackles (5.0 for loss).

The victory got Fortuna back to even at 4-4. As for St. Bernard's, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
