Baseball Game Preview: Desert Mountain Wolves vs. Campo Verde Coyotes

The Desert Mountain Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Campo Verde Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Mountain will be strutting in after a win while Campo Verde will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Desert Mountain turned things around against Arizona College Prep on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since March 18th.

Davis Anderson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cole Sonne, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Roman Carrington was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Chaparral hit Campo Verde with a five-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Coyotes fell 7-3 to the Firebirds. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Josh Heilman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, Campo Verde saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Roberson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Campo Verde's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Desert Mountain, their record is now 10-14.

Desert Mountain suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Campo Verde in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
