Mountain View was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Pacific Grove Breakers 5-4. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 6-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mountain View's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leilani Tanielu, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Maya Buell also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Mountain View is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pacific Grove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.

Mountain View didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-2 victory against Milpitas on the 22nd. As for Pacific Grove, they will challenge Stevenson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
