Football Recap: Rodrigo Martinez Key Part of Team Effort in Indians Win

Ysleta won the last time they faced Socorro and things went their way on Thursday too. The Indians strolled past the Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. The Indians pushed the score to 42-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs cut but never quite recovered from.

Ysleta's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rodrigo Martinez, who threw for 175 yards and four touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 60 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Martinez has posted since back in September of 2024. Michael Jacquez was Martinez's top target, picking up 126 receiving yards and three TDs.

When it comes to explaining why Socorro lost, don't look at Adrian Hunt. Despite the final result, he rushed for 199 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Antonio Montes was in the mix too, providing the Bulldogs with two touchdowns.

Ysleta has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 35.0 points this season. As for Socorro, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ysleta will square off against San Elizario at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Indians their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Socorro, they will face off against Bel Air at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,201 yards in their previous games.
