Black River dropped their record down to 10-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Keystone Wildcats by a score of 9-8. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by just one run.
Abbey Kiser put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed nine innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. Kiser was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Remi Dieter was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mia Rosales, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Keystone, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-5. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.3 runs.
On Keystone's side, Jordan Owca was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Owca is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Bristol Foster was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coming up, Black River will square off against Clearview at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Clippers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.19 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Keystone, they will challenge Firelands at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season.
