Basketball Recap: Walnut Ridge Comes Up Short

After soaring to 59 points the game before, Walnut Ridge was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They were dealt a 78-23 loss at the hands of the Africentric Early College Nubians. The game marked the Scots' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Walnut Ridge's loss came despite strong showings from Teaira Simpson and Nariyah Roddy. Simpson posted ten points, while Roddy had eight points. Those ten points gave Simpson a new career-high.

Jae?Veyonna Brown was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 39 points and 14 boards for Africentric Early College. That makes it three consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Africentric Early College's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaunie Little, who put up 12 points and six steals.

Walnut Ridge is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to field goal percentage: their shooting accuracy was 47.2% in those games and 31% outside of them. As for Africentric Early College, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5.

Walnut Ridge has already played their next contest, a 43-37 defeat against Independence on the 31st. As for Africentric Early College, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 67-22 victory against South on the 31st.
