Marion County is  a perfect 5-0 against Washington County since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Knights will host the Commanders  at 6:00  p.m. Marion County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4  runs per game  this season.
Marion County couldn't beat Green County  on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Knights fell just short of the Dragons by a score of  9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  loss the Knights have suffered  since March 16, 2024.
 Gracyn Mattingly was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she  struck out six batters over  four innings while giving up just one earned run off   six  hits (and only one walk). Mattingly was also solid in the batter's box,  going 2-for-3 with one  double.
 In other batting news,  Kendall Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and  went a perfect 2-for-2 with two  runs, two  RBI,  and one  double.  Chloe Cox was another key player,  going 2-for-4 with four  RBI and one  double.
Meanwhile,  after low-scoring totals in their previous three  matchup, Washington County brought some dynamite into their most recent  game. They put the hurt on John Hardin with a sharp  17-7 win on Monday. The  victory was some much needed relief for the Commanders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Marion County, Washington County also got a great game from a two-way player:  Ashtyn Baker. She  tossed seven innings while giving up  four earned  (and three unearned) runs off   five  hits. Baker was even better at the plate,  getting on base  in all five of her plate appearances with two  stolen bases, three  runs,  and one  triple. Those  three  runs gave  her a new career-high.
 In other batting news,  Ariana Gonzales was  incredible,  getting on base  in five of her six plate appearances with five  RBI, three  runs,  and two  doubles. That's the most  doubles  she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was  Izzy Medley, who  went 2-for-5 with three  RBI, one  stolen base,  and one  run.
 Marion County has  been struggling recently as they've  lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record  this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the  defeats came by an average of only 1.25 runs. As for Washington County, their win bumped their record up to 3-16.
Friday's   game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marion County has hit smart this season,  having  averaged  an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Washington County struggles in that department as   they've  averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
 Marion County took their  victory against Washington County  when the teams last played  back in March by a conclusive  20-5 score. Will the Knights repeat their success,  or do  the Commanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
