Recap: Mantachie Mustangs vs. New Site Royals
After a string of four wins, the Mantachie Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to New Site on the road by a decisive 64-48 margin. While losing is never fun, Mantachie can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while New Site is ranked 37th).
New Site's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brooklyn Hodum led the charge by scoring 13 points along with 7 assists and 4 steals. Hodum is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Chism, who scored 14 points along with 4 blocks.
Mantachie's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-6. As for New Site, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mantachie will take on Hickory Flat at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for New Site, they will head out on the road to face off against Baldwyn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
