Basketball Recap: Harlie Liebermann's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Reed-Custer over Coal City

Reed-Custer lost against Coal City back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Reed-Custer Comets fell just short of the Coal City Coalers by a score of 40-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Comets have suffered since December 19, 2024.

Reed-Custer's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Harlie Liebermann, who posted nine points. Morgan Toler was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Reed-Custer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Reed-Custer's defeat dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Coal City, they pushed their record up to 21-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Reed-Custer will square off against Lisle at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Coal City, they will venture away from home to take on Manteno at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
