Softball Recap: Staunton Storm vs. Harrisonburg Blue Streaks
Staunton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-4. They lost 22-0 to the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Streaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-6 two weeks ago.
As for Harrisonburg, their win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Harrisonburg's part, Delaney Dayton was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Dayton has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jordyn Byler was incredible, firing off four runs, three doubles, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Adalyn Cambell was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Staunton will face off against Waynesboro at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harrisonburg, they will square off against William Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
