Pleasant Plains hadn't done well against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Bluejays. The Cardinals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bluejays, too.

Kayden Skinner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lexie Shimkus, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaina Manuel, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Pleasant Plains and bumps their season record up to 6-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-8.

Coming up, Pleasant Plains will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Hartsburg-Emden at 9:00 a.m. As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, they will venture away from home to challenge Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
