Baseball Recap: Northlake Christian's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Northlake Christian came into Wednesday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the French Settlement Lions on Wednesday. This was payback for the Wolverines, who suffered a 6-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Eli Shoemake made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Northlake Christian is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-10-1 otherwise. Shoemake was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Shoemake wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luke McAdams, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Northlake Christian now has a winning record of 12-11-1. As for French Settlement, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northlake Christian will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Loranger at 6:30 p.m. on April 7. As for French Settlement, a feisty cat fight will be fought as French Settlement Lions challenge Walker Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
