Baseball Game Preview: Goffstown Grizzlies vs. Keene Blackbirds

The Goffstown Grizzlies will head out on the road to take on the Keene Blackbirds at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Goffstown will be strutting in after a victory while Keene will be coming in after a loss.

While Goffstown's win against Exeter wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Grizzlies had just enough and edged out the Blue Hawks 5-4 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Grizzlies have posted since May 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, Keene came up short against Salem on Wednesday and fell 6-2. The Blackbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Keene got a good showing from Watson Ferguson, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Ferguson a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Keene saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Callahan, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Derek Wiegers also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Goffstown and bumps their season record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Keene, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.

Goffstown couldn't quite finish off Keene when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
