Baseball Preview: Bellmont Braves vs. Warsaw Tigers
The Bellmont Braves will take on the Warsaw Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Bellmont is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over South Adams.
Layne LeMaster was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. LeMaster was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Gavin Krull was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mason Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Warsaw gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on New Albany with a sharp 8-2 victory.
Reed Nelson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Wyatt Stapleton and Logan Kim did most of the damage at the plate: Stapleton scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Kim scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Hunter Dippon was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Warsaw was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Albany only posted a batting average of .208.
