League recap: Arbor View extends winning streak with victory over Palo Verde

I Sunset - Northwest recap Oct. 30, 2012

Arbor View extended the longest winning streak in I Sunset - Northwest this week by beating Palo Verde, 35-29. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Aggies.

Arbor View led the league in scoring this week after putting up 35 points on the Panthers. Jacob Speaks ran for 85 yards and caught one passes for 51 yards in the win.

Brant Berglund put up the best numbers through the air as Spring Valley topped Sierra Vista. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Berglund's favorite target this week was Christian Tasi, who caught four passes for 83 yards.

Bakari Smith was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 120 yards as Shadow Ridge fell to Durango. Ryan Johnson also contributed to the rushing game with 21 yards on the ground.

Evans was the best wideout in I Sunset - Northwest this week as the Mustangs lost to the Trailblazers. Evans tallied five receptions for 133 yards. Deshawn Thompson helped Shadow Ridge's passing attack out by catching four balls for 95 yards.

Shadow Ridge's Smith and Evans have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1706 yards this season, while Evans, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 33 catches for 832 yards. Lee Griggs from Palo Verde leads the league in rushing with 873 yards.

Durango made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,333 from 4,813. The improvement came about via a 34-21 victory over Frank Tousa's team last week.
