Softball Recap: MacArthur Takes a Loss

MacArthur had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it ten. They came up short against the Champaign Central Maroons, falling 24-0. If the Generals were looking for revenge after losing 19-1 to the Maroons when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Champaign Central, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Maroons, who have now won 11 matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Champaign Central's part, Maisie Bowers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Bowers a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Kloeppel, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Mya De La Cruz was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one double.

Coming up, MacArthur will welcome Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals will need to watch out since the Crimsons have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Champaign Central, they will head out to take on Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
