Baseball Game Preview: Firebaugh Eagles vs. Chavez Titans

The Firebaugh Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Chavez Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Firebaugh has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 12.

Monday just wasn't the day for Firebaugh's offense. They came up short against Selma on Monday, falling 12-0.

Meanwhile, Chavez got the win against Sanger West on Monday by a conclusive 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Daniel Carrillo was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmanuel Segura, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Carrillo wasn't the only one making solid contact: Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sanger West only managed two hits.

Chavez is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Firebaugh, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

Firebaugh took their win against Chavez in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
