Baseball Recap: Samuell Takes a Loss

Samuell extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 28 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-16. They lost 21-0 to the Adams Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.

As for Adams, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Adams' part, Justino Chavarria and Jay Ortiz were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Chavarria tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ortiz pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Adams is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-10 otherwise. At bat, Chavarria went 1-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Ortiz earned two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Chavarria has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Adams got a massive performance out of Nick Ortiz, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Ortiz has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Cruz, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Coming up, Samuell will be playing in front of their home fans against West Mesquite at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Adams, they will head out to challenge Plano East at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
