The Colton Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Country Christian Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Colton has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Colton's last matchup with St. Paul could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Wednesday. The Vikings came up short against the Buckaroos, falling 12-6. The Vikings just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.
Katelynn Kimsey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Country Christian was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They won by a run and slipped past Kennedy 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Kelsey Mulhern made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Mulhern was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Grace Colvin was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Country Christian now has a winning record of 7-6-1. As for Colton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Colton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Country Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Colton was able to grind out a solid win over Country Christian in their previous meeting back in April, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
