Baseball Game Preview: Navajo Prep Eagles vs. Shiprock Chieftains

Navajo Prep hasn't had much luck against Shiprock recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Navajo Prep will challenge Shiprock at 3:00 p.m. Navajo Prep has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Tuesday, Navajo Prep came up short against Hozho Academy and fell 13-9.

Jashyro Bileen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Khol Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Shiprock made easy work of Zuni on Tuesday and carried off a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Chieftains, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Khalil Nakai was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Shiprock: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Antonio James was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Shiprock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Navajo Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Shiprock, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Navajo Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Shiprock struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
