Baseball Game Preview: Drumright Tornadoes vs. Mounds Golden Eagles

The Drumright Tornadoes will challenge the Mounds Golden Eagles at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Drumright has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Drumright lost 14-5 to Stroud on Tuesday. The Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Mounds got the win against Porter on Monday by a conclusive 11-4. The Golden Eagles have beaten the Pirates the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pirates has come to flipping the script.

Dalton Nail made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Mounds: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jathan Clay, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blake Green, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.

Mounds kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win got Mounds back to even at 7-7. As for Drumright, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Drumright took their victory against Mounds when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 13-5 score. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
