Basketball Recap: North Summit Picks Up 13th Straight Win at Home

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only North Summit walked away with it. They really took it to the Water Canyon Wildcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-24 win. The Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 20 points or more this season.

North Summit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hartlynn Richins out in front who went 7-for-12 to rack up 17 points along with eight assists and seven steals. The matchup was Richins' third in a row with at least 16 points. Ellie Stephens was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 16 rebounds.

North Summit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Defeat or not, Water Canyon got some senior leadership from Alysha Cooke and Martha Jessop. Cooke almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards, while Jessop posted 11 points and five rebounds.

North Summit pushed their record up to 23-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points over those games. As for Water Canyon, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Looking ahead, North Summit will take on St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in North Summit's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games. Water Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
