Basketball Recap: Ty Rowley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cedar over Roy

The Cedar Reds came up short against the Roy Royals on Saturday and fell 54-42. The loss put an end to the Reds' undefeated start to the season.

Several Reds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ty Rowley, who shot 42% from the field on his way to 15 points and three steals. That was a full 35.7% of Cedar's points, marking the third time in a row Rowley has posted more than a third of the team's points. Everett Kelling was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

Roy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jesse Jones led the charge by scoring 14 points and seven rebounds. Jones is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jakob Hamblin, who went 7-for-9 en route to 14 points along with six boards and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cedar fell to 2-1. As for Roy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Looking ahead, Cedar will head out to square off against Richfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Roy, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Weber at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
