Football Game Preview: Boerne-Champion Chargers vs. New Braunfels Unicorns

After each having a week off, the Boerne-Champion Chargers and the New Braunfels Unicorns will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Boerne-Champion earned a 57-50 win over Seguin.

Caleb Farias had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 167 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards.

Farias was just one part of a punishing run game: Boerne-Champion was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 303 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, New Braunfels put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Victoria East 42-3. Given the Unicorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Titans are ranked 539th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Special teams played a big role in the game for New Braunfels, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of GRANT FRANKLIN, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

New Braunfels' victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Boerne-Champion, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Things could have been worse for Boerne-Champion, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-34 loss to New Braunfels in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Chargers, CLAYTON NAMKEN (who rushed for 105 yards and four touchdowns, and also threw for 269 yards and a pair of TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
