Basketball Game Preview: DeLand-Weldon Eagles vs. Edinburg Wildcats

The DeLand-Weldon Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Edinburg Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. DeLand-Weldon has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with ten straight defeats, while Edinburg will come in with five straight wins.

Last Monday, DeLand-Weldon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-42 to Calvary Christian Academy.

Meanwhile, Edinburg beat Litchfield 68-60 on Tuesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Purple Panthers are ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edinburg's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for DeLand-Weldon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

DeLand-Weldon was dealt a bruising 67-36 defeat at the hands of Edinburg when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can DeLand-Weldon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
