Softball Game Preview: Green Hope Falcons vs. Broughton Capitals

The Green Hope Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Broughton Capitals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Hope will be strutting in after a victory while Broughton will be coming in after a defeat.

If Green Hope beats Broughton with 17 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went Green Hope's way against Sanderson on Monday as Green Hope made off with a 17-1 win. The Falcons have beaten the Spartans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.

Rachael Baldyga was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Ainsley Campbell was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. She also put up three RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Cerneka, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Meanwhile, Broughton fell victim to Heritage and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Huskies, falling 15-0. The Capitals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Broughton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian O'Neill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

Broughton now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Green Hope, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Green Hope skirted past Broughton 12-11 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Green Hope since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
