Basketball Recap: Rylie Berry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Flagler over Burlington

It was a proper cat-fight when Flagler challenged Burlington on Friday. The Flagler Panthers took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Burlington Cougars. The Panthers have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Flagler's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rylie Berry, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Berry is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydnie Berry, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Flagler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Kiyarra Williams continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Burlington, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 26 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Burlington's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bethany Cure, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Flagler's record is now 7-5. As for Burlington, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
