Softball Game Preview: Landstown Eagles vs. Kellam Knights

Landstown is 0-10 against Kellam since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Knights at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Landstown turned things around against Princess Anne on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 12-2 victory.

Zoey Hassler spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Landstown let Aubrey Stapleton and Lyla Kowalski run wild. Stapleton went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Kowalski went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Kowalski a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Stumler, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Landstown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Kellam faced Ocean Lakes in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Knights blew past the Dolphins 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The win got Landstown back to even at 7-7. As for Kellam, their record is now 12-2.

Landstown might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Kellam when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
