Football Recap: Malik Mazyun and Kourmarion Mcneil Pace Cahokia Defense

After flying high against Lutheran last Friday, Cahokia came back down to earth. The Comanches took a 22-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lift for Life Academy Hawks on Saturday.

When it comes to explaining why Cahokia lost, don't look at Machai Henderson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs.

Even if they lost, Cahokia's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Malik Mazyun and Kourmarion McNeil, who racked up four sacks between them. Mazyun is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last 12 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Lift for Life Academy's side was Pharell Holman, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles.

Lift for Life Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Phoenix Isaiah, who threw for 235 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one score on the ground. Those 235 passing yards gave Isaiah a new career-high. 80 of Isaiah's passing yards were hauled in by Tony Woolfolk Jr., who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Cahokia's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Lift for Life Academy, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cahokia will challenge Granite City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lift for Life Academy, they will head out to challenge Baylor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
