Basketball Recap: Kendall Southern Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

Gaston Christian won the last time they faced Gaston Day and things went their way on Friday too. The Gaston Christian Eagles took down the Gaston Day Spartans 71-52.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gaston Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kendall Southern, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Southern a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Cameron Newman, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Gaston Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Gaston Day still got an impressive performance from Gavin Fields, who posted 13 points along with eight boards and five steals. Dylan Bradley was another key player, putting up six points.

Gaston Christian's record now sits at 18-7. As for Gaston Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-8.

Gaston Christian and Gaston Day should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Gaston Christian (ranked 21st) will meet Hickory Grove Christian (ranked 209th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaston Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Gaston Day will face off against Legion Collegiate Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 346 places (57 vs. 403).
