The Lamar Tigers will take on the Southwest Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lamar has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lamar was handed a 11-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Varsity Opponent 13-12.
Lexy Stephen was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Stephen was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zavrie Wiss, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maylee Rawlings, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and three runs.
Lamar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Jasper hit Southwest with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 8-7. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Lamar is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Southwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Everything went Lamar's way against Southwest in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Lamar made off with a 14-4 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
