Baseball Game Preview: Donna Redskins vs. Rivera Raiders

The Donna Redskins will head out to face off against the Rivera Raiders at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Donna is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Donna's offense. They came up short against Rivera on Tuesday, falling 6-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Redskins' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Rivera's part, not much got past Derrick Villarreal, who gave up just five hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Donna off the board. Villarreal has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marcos Guerrero was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Enrique Rey also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Rivera hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Donna struck out 13 times.

With the defeat, Donna broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rivera, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Donna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Rivera struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
