Basketball Game Preview: Needles Mustangs vs. GV Christian Guardians

Two dominant guards in Luke Mills and Nick Madsen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Needles Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the GV Christian Guardians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Needles' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Thursday, Needles got the win against Mohave Accelerated by a conclusive 85-63. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Darrell Russell, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Mills was another key player, putting up 19 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Needles smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, GV Christian came up short against Moapa Valley on Monday and fell 70-62. The Guardians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Needles pushed their record up to 22-0 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. As for GV Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

Everything came up roses for Needles against GV Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured an 81-47 win. In that contest, Needles amassed a halftime lead of 48-24, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
