Baseball Recap: Archbishop Mitty Comes Up Short

Archbishop Mitty had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 11-13 to make it six. They lost 13-3 to the Saint Francis Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 on Friday.

Archbishop Mitty got a good showing from Jonah Ferrell, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ferrell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Archbishop Mitty saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Felix Chang, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Saint Francis, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games.

On Saint Francis' side, Elliot Hsu looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Gino Cappellazzo was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon King, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Archbishop Mitty didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-4 loss against Bellarmine College Prep on the 6th. As for Saint Francis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against St. Ignatius College Preparatory on the 6th.
