Softball Preview: Cedar Grove Panthers vs. Payne Tech Lions

The Cedar Grove Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Payne Tech Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Monday, Cedar Grove came up short against Caldwell and fell 7-2. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Payne Tech). They put the hurt on Irvington with a sharp 13-3 win on Monday. Considering the Lions have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emme Melendez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Melendez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Marisela Sanabria was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Emani Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Payne Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cedar Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Payne Tech, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-8 record.
