Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Clemens Battling Bathers vs. Mumford Mustangs

The Mt. Clemens Battling Bathers are taking a road trip to square off against the Mumford Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

On Friday, Mt. Clemens was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-41 to Advanced Tech Academy. While losing is never fun, the Battling Bathers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 475th, while the Lakers are ranked 220th).

Despite the defeat, Mt. Clemens got top-tier performance from Leah Williams, who dropped a triple-double with 19 points, 12 boards, and 12 steals. The game was Williams' seventh in a row with at least 16 points. Jacqueline Barrientos was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Meanwhile, Mumford ended up a good deal behind Detroit Country Day on Tuesday and lost 76-57.

Mumford's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Mt. Clemens, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Mt. Clemens was taken down by Mumford 57-8 when the teams last played back in December of 2014. Can Mt. Clemens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
