Softball Recap: Royal Find Success

Royal proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Simi Valley Pioneers 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won four in a row.

Julianna Galbraith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marilyn Augusta was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Emily Albert, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Royal's record now sits at 8-5. As for Simi Valley, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Royal is set to square off against their familiar foe Oak Park at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Simi Valley will challenge rival Moorpark at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pioneers 3.8, the Musketeers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
