Baseball Game Preview: Stewarts Creek Red Hawks vs. LaVergne Wolverines

For the second straight game, Stewarts Creek will face off against LaVergne. The Red Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Stewarts Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on LaVergne with a sharp 13-6 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Red Hawks considering their one-run performance the game before.

For LaVergne's part, Dominic Townsend and Jay Jerome did some serious damage despite the final result: Townsend scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Jerome scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jerome has become a key player for the Wolverines: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

Stewarts Creek pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for LaVergne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. However, it's not like LaVergne struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts.
