Baseball Recap: Portage Central Takes a Loss

Portage Central was the 4-3 winner over Mattawan when they last played one another back in June of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Portage Central got a good showing from Noah Klein, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Klein also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Mustangs are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Nolan Bloomquist made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases. Cam Noe also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Portage Central's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Mattawan, their win bumped their record up to 5-1-3.

While Portage Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
