Softball Recap: Port Clinton Has No Trouble Against Vermilion

Port Clinton won the last time they faced Vermilion and things went their way on Monday too. The Redskins blew past the Sailors 8-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Redskins.

Ashton Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olivia Emerson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Gabby Howard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Port Clinton pushed their record up to 10-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Vermilion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Clinton will head out to challenge Margaretta at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Polar Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.2 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Vermilion, they will take on Ontario at 5:00 p.m. on the 13th.
