Softball Preview: A.L. Brown Wonders vs. Mooresville Blue Devils
A.L. Brown is 1-8 against Mooresville since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. A.L. Brown will head out to square off against Mooresville at 5:30 p.m. A.L. Brown will be strutting in after a win while Mooresville will be coming in after a loss.
A.L. Brown took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lake Norman, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. A.L. Brown skirted past Lake Norman 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wonders have posted since April 23, 2024.
Mary Katherine Black was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Black wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Myla McNeely, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Mooresville's offense. They came up short against Hickory Ridge on Friday, falling 6-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Blue Devils were not able to get on the board.
