Baseball Game Preview: Newark Reds vs. Rowan County Vikings

The Newark Reds will challenge the Rowan County Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

After dropping their season opener at home, Rowan County is headed out to face a Reds squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Newark lost 13-2 to Dansville on Wednesday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Meanwhile, Rowan County waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Bluejackets.

Rowan County let Aaron Pennington and Ross Banks run wild. Pennington went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Banks went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Pennington has become a key player for Rowan County: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brody Lykins, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Rowan County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.
