Volleyball Recap: Highland's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Highland came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Bishop Hartley Hawks. The Fighting Scots' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Highland was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Bishop Hartley work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 27-25, 25-16.

Defeat or not, Highland got some senior leadership from MaKaylee Merckling and Riley Walker. Merckling had 23 digs and one assist, while Walker had ten digs and two assists. Merckling is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last 13 games she's played.

Leading Bishop Hartley to victory were Samantha Heuser and Addie Lawler. Heuser had five digs and three aces, while Lawler had seven digs. That's the most digs Lawler has posted over her last four matches.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Bishop Hartley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bishop Hartley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bishop Watterson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
