Softball Recap: Ridgewood [Alwood/Cambridge] Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] kicked off their season on the road on Saturday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of the Mercer County Golden Eagles by a score of 8-7. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ella Humphrey was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kerigan Lewis, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.

Humphrey wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Mercer County has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-7 win against Alleman on the 24th. As for Mercer County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-2 victory against Bureau Valley on the 25th.
