Recap: West Grand Mustangs vs. Sedgwick County Cougars
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the West Grand Mustangs can now relate to. They were dealt a 56-26 defeat at the hands of Sedgwick County on Saturday. West Grand was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-12.
When it comes to explaining why West Grand lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joe Probst. Despite the final result, he picked up 176 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
It was another big night for Jaxon Carlson, who rushed for 204 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Carlson's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards. Another player making a difference was Brady Mollendor, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for West Grand and nudges their season record down to 8-2. As for Sedgwick County, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
West Grand does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sedgwick County will head out on the road to face off against Mancos at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mancos is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
