Football Recap: Garner's Rushing Dominance Continues + How To Watch

Garner hadn't beaten Fuquay - Varina on the road since November 1, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Trojans came out on top against the Bengals by a score of 34-21. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Bengals are ranked 88th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amir Wallace had a dynamite game, rushing for 134 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries. Those 134 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nolan Clinard, who threw for 113 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Garner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups.

Another reason for the win was Garner's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joseph Cappelletti, Tyquan Richardson, and Ryan Hebert, who each picked up one sack apiece. Garner got some further help from Cappelletti: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Several Bengals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matthew Ziglar, who rushed for 93 yards and two scores. Jackson Smith also deserves some recognition as he passed for his first passing yards of the season.

Garner's record now sits at 7-3. As for Fuquay - Varina, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Garner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fuquay - Varina, they will head out to take on Holly Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
