Recap: Boylan Catholic Titans vs. Guilford Vikings
It was a good run, but the Boylan Catholic Titans unfortunately witnessed the end of their 15-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Guilford. Boylan Catholic was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Guilford apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Boylan Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lilian Esparza. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Esparza has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Harter, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Boylan Catholic's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-3. As for Guilford, they pushed their record up to 14-10 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Boylan Catholic will head out on the road to challenge Rockford Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rockford Auburn will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Boylan Catholic is ranked 51st). As for Guilford, they will be playing at home against Harlem at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Harlem is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
