Basketball Recap: Horizon Comes Up Short at Home Against Fort Collins

Horizon unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 48-38 to the Fort Collins Lambkins on Tuesday. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lambkins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Horizon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sofia Diannie, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards, and Neveah Stukas, who posted six points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Dorsett, who put up four points and three steals.

Fort Collins' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Alcaraz, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Alcaraz a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Morgan Bandhauer, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 10 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Horizon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 46-33 defeat against Skyview on the 5th. As for Fort Collins, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-34 loss against Chaparral on the 5th.
