Baseball Game Preview: Cypress Centurions vs. El Modena Vanguards

The Cypress Centurions are taking a road trip to challenge the El Modena Vanguards at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cypress 2.8, El Modena 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Cypress barely beat Ocean View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Centurions blew past the Seahawks 7-1 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Centurions in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now won eight in a row.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between El Modena and El Dorado, and El Dorado kept the tradition alive. The Vanguards fell just short of the Golden Hawks by a score of 5-4 on Friday.

Cypress pushed their record up to 16-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for El Modena, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

Cypress came out on top in a nail-biter against El Modena in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Centurions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
