Baseball Recap: Kewanee Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Kewanee barely beat Macomb the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Kewanee put the hurt on Macomb with a sharp 14-3 win on Monday. With that victory, the Boilermakers brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

Colson Welgat made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Ace LaFollette was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Kewanee is undefeated when LaFollette posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Lincoln Mason also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Kewanee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Kewanee's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4. As for Macomb, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kewanee will square off against Monmouth-Roseville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Macomb, they will challenge Quincy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Quincy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.86 runs per game on average), something Macomb will no doubt try to take advantage of.
